TRUE COLORS: OUT YOUTH THEATER
True Colors is one of the nation's first and only touring theater programs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning youth and their straight allies (LGBTQQA), ages 14-22. True Colors' original work captures the complexities of the lives of LGBTQQA youth, their experiences of dealing with discrimination, and their hopes for the future. Troupe members tour their original play to schools, community groups and events throughout New England.
TRUE COLORS TOURING/BOOKING
An estimated 30,000 youth in Massachusetts identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT). The most recent Massachusetts Youth Risk Behavior Survey results show that, in comparison to their straight peers, youth who identify as LGB are over three times more likely to have missed school in the past month because of feeling unsafe, over four times more likely to have been injured or threatened with a weapon at school, and over four times more likely to have attempted suicide in the past year. These statistics cannot be ignored. It's time to show our support of LGBT students and put a stop to discrimination and violence in our schools and our communities.
Help your students feel safe and supported. True Colors is now booking performances, previews and workshops through May 2011. Let us help you show YOUR true colors.
Performances
Each season, troupe members tour their original 30-minute show to up to 20 schools, community groups and events, performing for up to 2,000 audience members across New England. After each performance, the troupe leads a 20-minute post-show discussion with the audience. This discussion enables the audience to ask frank questions about the creation process, the youth and LGBTQQA issues in general. The discussion is assisted by a learning guide with customized resources, articles and activities for and about LGBTQQ youth and allies. Upcoming tour dates:
- December 1 - December 21, 2010
- May 3 - May 26, 2011
Preview Performances
A preview performance is an opportunity for the cast and crew to fine tune the show based on the response of a live audience. Often there will be changes made based on feedback from preview performances. Contact us for more details on discounts if you book a preview performance. Upcoming performance preview dates:
- November 16 - November 23, 2010
- April 19 - April 28, 2011
True Colors performance and workshop fees range from $300-$1800, depending on the touring package you choose. Fees are negotiable and various payment options are available. For more information on Touring/Booking please contact us.
