queer [re]public/emergent artist residency

TTO’s Queer (Re)public Residency Program is dedicated solely to queer & trans artists of color, whose work demonstrates artistic vigor and inquisitive exploration of their personal queer aesthetics.  Through Queer (Re)public’s Emergent Artist Residency, TTO will engage and support artists both emerging and experienced.

queer [re]public festival

Born from TTO’s OUT In Your Neighborhood Festival in 2017, the QUEER (RE)PUBLIC FESTIVAL is a vital part of our next lifecycle and mission, presenting liberating art by, for, and about queer and trans people of color that transcends artistic boundaries, celebrates cultural abundance, and dismantles oppression. This festival serves as the culmination of our Emergent Artist Residency and True Colors Residency programs, featuring a series of workshops, staged readings, and dance performances.

true colors

True Colors: Out Youth Theater is The Theater Offensive’s longest running seasonal program. It uses a proven community-based theater approach to train and activate lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and allied youth leaders ages 13-25. True Colors youth leaders work with The Theater Offensive to develop comprehensive youth programming that engages participants deeply in our mission.

queering the screen

In partnership with The Coolidge Corner Theatre, TTO seeks to display queer media, focusing primarily on explicit representation of Queer & Trans characters and communities in cinema, theatrical production recordings, and media performance. The themes of these films will revolve around The Theater Offensive's Queer Liberatory Aesthetics, which are at the core of our life-affirming values for queer and trans people of color. Through this series, we will analyze the contested relationships between spectator and text, identity and commodity, realism and fantasy, activism and entertainment, desire and politics.
